Whitfield Village Fair!

Always the second Sunday of September, Whitfield’s Fair usually clashes with The Great North Run, the world’s largest half-marathon, that twirls around the bridges of the toon. But here in the Allen Valleys, Whitfield Village Fair is such a lovely experience that if you’re not participating in the charity marathon, you really should be over at the River West Allen and the Fair!

The Industrial Section features home baking, preserves and crafts, as well as intriguing competitions for the kids to enter. There’s the dog show competition too, of course, as well as the regular quoits hoie-ing. The marquee will be filled with craft stalls as well, and the exhibits outside on the big green are sure to entertain, with vintage cars, motorbikes and tractors, and maybe even a traction engine as in previous years.

I’d be surprised if a great workhorse or two weren’t also present, and the barbecue should keep everyone well nourished. A dog agility course is usually laid on, and sure there’ll be terrier races. Arrive for lunch, and stay for afternoon tea!

The weather auguries are good too, so it looks like a wonderful day out for the family, at this last show/fair of the season in these valleys.
